De’Andre Hunter will return to Virginia for his redshirt-sophomore season and not declare for the NBA Draft, he tweeted Friday afternoon.

Hunter likely is continuing his rehabilitation from a broken left wrist suffered in the ACC Tournament semifinals six weeks ago to the date. He had until Sunday at 11:59 p.m. to declare for the NBA Draft.

This is welcome news for the Cavaliers, who saw Hunter burst on the scene during last season’s 31-3 campaign. He was the ACC Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 9.2 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game. He was one of UVa’s best players in during the ACC season.

Hunter missed the NCAA Tournament loss to UMBC last month.

He has three years of eligibility remaining.
