Admission in Baripada med college uncertain

There is growing uncertainty over admission of students to the local Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College in the coming academic session. This has now evoked sharp reactions in different circles here.

According to sources, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has not yet given any written assurance as regards admission of students in the First Year class and readmission of students in the Second Year class in the college.

Secondly, the Union Health Ministry too hasn’t so far issued to the medical college authorities any Letter of Permission (LOP), which is very crucial for admitting students in the college in the next academic session.

In spite of repeated warnings by the MCI, it is alleged, there has been negligence at the State level in respect of fulfilling certain criteria and taking steps that are very much necessary for obtaining  the LOP. That is why things have presently come to such a sorry pass, observers say.

These developments have now caused widespread resentment among the people of Mayurbhanj district.

While some describe this as a reflection of step-motherly attitude of the Government towards this tribals-dominated district, others attribute it to gross indifference and callousness of the authorities.
