Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party has slammed CM Devendra Fadnavis for making a false claim that Maharashtra is Open Defecation Free. NCP national spokesperson Nawab Malik said, “The state govt has spent Rs 4071 crores on the scheme. Fadnavis should now tell the public what criteria was used to measure ODF.

And they should also show us the project audit.” Malik was speaking to media a day after Fadnavis made the grand announcement. Even Mumbai city is not free of open defecation, Malik insisted, contesting the govt version. He advised the CM to go on a morning safari and take a call on the morning squatters on the roadside and on the railway tracks.

Maybe, the CM should institute an award for all those who send pictorial evidence of people defecating in the open, the NCP leader suggested. “We advise him to institute an award of Rs 1000 for all those citizens who click photographs of people defecating in the open – this will be conclusive evidence that the government is lying,” he asserted.
