Mumbai: Social media giant Facebook has started a new feature for Android phone users to recharge their phones. To avail this facility, the Android user needs to have its latest version of Facebook application.
The representative of Facebook India Vertika told the Free Press Journal the ‘pilot project is at present on testing phase.’ The new feature allows users to pay via credit or debit cards to recharge phones. One of the avid users of Facebook Anjali Singh welcomed the initiative by Facebook. “It is indeed very good initiative as majority of people are using Facebook app on their cellphone. If the new feature has been introduced by Facebook, we won’t have to download a separate application to recharge our cellphone. One can recharge cellphone while Facebooking online,” said Singh, who is a banker in Mumbai.
The cyber law expert Puneet Bhasin said it is just a method to remain in the market as the Facebook has lost its popularity in the last few years.
“The Facebook has lost its popularity over a period of time not because of the data leak. Initially there was a craze among its users but how many of them are actively using this social media now a days. Today people are using other social medias like instagram and others more than the Facebook. The Facebook has reached organic stagnation point now,” Bhasin added.
The feature has been launched amidst the time when the massive data leak at Facebook shocked its users across globe. In this scenario, the Facebook India users are skeptical to share their personal bank card details to recharge their phones via new feature on the Facebook.
Bhasin said, “It depends how much is the safety and security standards are met by this feature. It is very important to know if they have actual team working 24X7 on cyber security or not.” “Amidst the time when massive data leak at Facebook shocked its users across globe, their product called WhatsApp is not affected in India. So it really does not make a difference to them,” added Bhasin.
