Two incidents of fires were reported in the Kalyan Dombivli area on Thursday afternoon. Officials said there were no casualties in either incident.

According to officials with the Kalyan Dombivli Fire Brigade, the first fire was reported around 3.30 p.m. on Thursday in Dombivli Darbar Hotel. The fire started in the kitchen, and is suspected to have broken out due to a gas leak.

“The fire spread up to the first two storeys of the building, and engulfed all the electrical wiring. The hotel is five minutes away from the Dombivli fire station, and one fire tender was rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control in a short time,” fire officer Sudhakar Kulkarni, Kalyan Dombivli Fire Brigade, said.

Around the same time, a large fire broke out in the Adharwadi dumping ground in Kalyan. “The fire is believed to have broken out due to intense heat. We rushed five fire tenders and five water tankers to the spot. The fire caused thick smoke in the surrounding area for around two hours,” Mr. Kulkarni said.

He said the second blaze was brought under control by around 7.30 p.m., and was completely doused by 8 p.m. No casualities were reported in either of the fires.
