OKLAHOMA CITY -
A group of “Grannies” are working to keep their youth by playing competitive basketball.
The Oklahoma Twisters is the state’s only “Granny League” basketball team.
The over 50 league has 30 teams in nine states.
The rules promote a safe game. You can “hustle”, but you aren't allowed to run.
A 3-point shot is a granny shot made from anywhere on the floor.
“I’m recruiting at funerals. I mean where are you going to find people over 50,” said Kay Talley, the teams coach and player.
The team will travel all over the region for games. Proceeds from the price of admission to the games goes to a charity of each team’s choice.
“The camaraderie with the ladies has been great,” said player Nancy Brown.
