Lairai jatra fervour grips Shirigaon

Thousands of devotees and vratastha dhonds thronged to Shirigaon on Friday to participate in the jatrotsav. The women made heavy rush to offer ‘ottis’ with flowers to deity Shri Lairai of Shirigaon since morning. Everything was set for the main jatra of ‘agnidivya’ by dhonds. Firewood was arranged at the place of agnidivya.

Religious rituals were held in the temple. The vratastha dhonds started to gather since afternoon.  Dressed in special attire, holding vetas (stick) in hand they took five rounds around the specially arranged firewood called ‘homkhand’.

The big fair is another feature of the jatra.  Thousands of vratastha dhonds from different parts of the state performed agnidivya by walking through burning wood-charcoal with slogans like ‘Lairai Mata ki Jai,’ Har har Mahadev’, etc.

Police and traffic department personnel were on their toes to control the rush of people and traffic at different points. The 4-day Kaulotsav will start from Saturday. The residents and devotees seek blessings of goddess Lairai during the Kaulotsav.
