Yanks' Kahnle could miss several weeks
NEW YORK — Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle will be shut down for 10 days and the Shaker High grad likely miss a few weeks after being diagnosed with biceps and shoulder tendinitis.
Clint Frazier (concussion) was set to take batting practice and do outfield work with Class A Tampa and could play in a game soon. Brandon Drury (severe migraines) took batting practice with New York on Thursday, and Greg Bird (right ankle surgery) ran on the field, played catch and hit.
Jacoby Ellsbury is still in Tampa recovering from plantar fasciitis in his right heel as well as oblique and hip injuries.
Golf: Grayson Murray fixed a flaw in his swing and hit the ball well enough that blustery conditions didn't matter at the Valero Texas Open. He made seven birdies in his round of 5-under 67 for a one-shot lead. Of the five players at 68, only Chesson Hadley played in the morning. Keegan Bradley, Ryan Moore, Billy Horschel and Matt Atkins also posted a 68. ... Inbee Park shot a 5-under 66 for a one-shot lead in the opening round of the HUGEL-JTBC LA Open in the LPGA Tour's return to Los Angeles after a 13-year absence. Marina Alex was second. ... Bradley Dredge shares the lead with Alvaro Quiros at 5-under 67 after the opening round of the European Tour's Trophee Hassan II event in Morocco. The joint leaders have a one-shot advantage over Oliver Fisher, Joakim Lagergren, Erik Van Rooyen and Lorenzo Gagli. ... Jeff Maggert and Jesper Parnevik shot an 8-under 63 in better-ball play to take the first-round lead in the PGA Tour Champions' Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf. Mark Calcavecchia and Woody Austin were a stroke back.
Marathon: London Marathon runners have been urged to reconsider dressing up in fancy costumes because Sunday's race is set to be the warmest on record. Forecasts indicate sunshine and a temperature of 23 Celsius (74 Fahrenheit), beating the previous high of 22.2 (72 F) in 2007.
