Valiya Padayani at Kadammanitta tomorrow

The annual mega Padayani festival, Valiya Padayani, at the Bhagavathy Temple at Kadammanitta near here will be held on Saturday evening.

The Padayani festival at the Kadammanitta temple began with the customary ‘choottuvaipu’ ceremony three days ago.

The performance of Koottakkolam was held with ritualistic splendour on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Koottakkolam comprised a Ganapatikolam, Maruthakolam, Kalankolam, Yakshikolam, Kanjiramala and the majestic Bhairavikolam. The kolams reached the temple premises in a customary procession, to the accompaniment of Padayani songs and the traditional percussion of ‘Thappu’, after the Athazhapuja at the Bhagavathy temple.

A large number of devotees as well as temple art lovers assembled at the Kadammanitta temple premises to watch the ritualistic dance performances.

The Koottakkolam performance will be held after the Athazhapuja in the evening on all days till Friday.

The ‘Thappukottu’, the traditional Padayani percussion performance, will begin at 9 p.m. and the ritualistic dance ‘kolamthullal’ at 11 p.m. on all days during the festival.

Arrangements in place

The temple Devaswom and the Kadammanitta Gotra Kala Kalari have made arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival, K.Haridas temple Devaswom president said.

The Valiya Padayani, at which the major attraction will be performance of the majestic Bhairavikolams, will be held on Saturday evening.

Different types of ‘kolams’ will be paraded in a unique procession. The procession will begin from the Kadammanitta junction to culminate at the temple precincts. The ‘kolams’ to be displayed in the procession include that of Ganapati, Yakshi, Madan, Marutha, Kuthira, Kaalan, and Bharavi. The devotees too will join the procession.

The Bhairavikolam performances will be held at the temple precincts, later.

The Padayani festival will come to a close with the Padayani performance on April 23.
