Dentist threatened outside busy court hall

Alleged incident took place when she came out after deposing against him

A 38-year-old dentist was allegedly threatened outside a crowded court room in the Mayo Hall court complex when she went to give her statement against a person who had cheated and harassed her four years ago.

Despite the presence of a huge number of advocates and police in the complex, accused James E. David and his associates allegedly abused and threatened to harm the family of the dentist for deposing against them before the magistrate.

The victim is from Pulakeshi Nagar. She had filed a case accusing James of posing as the legal advisor of an IT company, befriending her and later taking possession of a part of her house on the pretext of giving tuitions. He allegedly began harassing her physically and blackmailing her for money. When she asked him to vacate her house, he allegedly tried to inflict injuries on himself and even created a fake agreement document by forging signatures.

Based on her complaint, the Pulakeshi Nagar police in 2014 booked him under various sections of the IPC, including criminal intimidation, cheating, forgery and outraging the modesty of a woman. He was arrested.

The case came up before the 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate. The complainant was summoned to depose before the magistrate.

When she went to depose on Tuesday, the accused began to threaten and abuse her, threatening her with dire consequences. Ignoring his threats, the complainant deposed in court. But, as soon as she came out of the court hall, the accused abused her and threatened to harm her family and children.

"I am scared that the accused might act on his threats. I want the police to take action against him," the victim said in her complaint to the Ashok Nagar police about Tuesday’s incident.

According to her, the accused is named in several cases in various police stations.
