Pb approves accidental insurance cover for accredited media persons

Benefitting nearly 4,200 media persons, accredited with the Punjab Government and the yellow card holders, the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday approved accidental insurance cover of Rs five lakh for them.

For the purpose, the United India Insurance Company has been selected through tendering process, by the Department of Information and Public Relations, and an agreement is expected to be signed soon to this effect, said the spokesperson.

Under the proposed agreement, the insurance cover would be provided to the nominee of the journalists in case of any accidental death claim as per the stipulated provisions.

In accordance with the provisions of the scheme, the benefit of 100 percent of the sum insured, that is Rs five lakh would be paid in the case of accidental death, permanent total disability, loss of two limbs, or loss of one eye and one limb.

Besides, additional benefits have been provisioned in terms of 100 percent sum insured amounting to Rs five lakh in the case of loss of sight in both eyes and Rs 2.50 lakh for the loss of one eye or one limb, that is 50 per cent of the sum insured.
