It’s been said that movies inspire people. Abhay Deol starrer ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ based on ‘super chor’ Davinder Singh, alias, Bunty Chor, inspired two youths from the city for all wrong reasons. Ghatkopar police arrested two youths for breaking-in into people’s house and stealing their valuables. The police have recovered Rs 5.85 lakh worth of valuables from the duo.
According to Hindustan Times, the duo has been identified as Anand Sakpal (20) and Ajay Deokar (22). The duo used to target houses of high rise, by first ringing bells 10 to 12 times and waiting to check if the flat had any occupants. If no one responded, the duo would enter the house through the refuge areas built in high rises, like bathrooms and kitchens after descending from the pipes. The duo used to steal expensive clothes and shoes. The duo would sell the jewellery and spend the money at bars and holiday in Goa. The duo used to rob houses in areas such as Ghatkopar, Matunga, BKC, Borivli, Versova, and Goregaon.
The lifestyle of the duo led to suspicion and a source tipped off Ghatkopar police, who later detained them. During interrogation, the duo confessed to their crimes and said that they wanted to imitate Bunty, who shot to fame because of his crime capers, and then the movie ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’, which was based on his life. This is the first time the duo has been arrested. So far, their involvement in 11 cases has come to the fore.
