Buried under sand, truck helper dies

An 18-year-old truck helper died while sand was being loaded into a truck at Erada Ghata under Naugaon block on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Rakesh Sahoo of Benupuru village under Balarampur panchayat in Jagatsinghpur block.

Sources said while a JCB machine was loading sand in the truck, Sahoo got buried under a heap of sand and died. The Naugaon police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.

The police sources said the drivers of the truck and the JCB fled the spot after the incident. The police seized both vehicles and started an investigation.
