Woman missing from hospital traced to Kollam

Tests show that an abortion has taken place

The police have located a 22-year-old woman who went missing from the SAT Hospital here two days ago.

Shamna, wife of Anshad of Pallickal, near Madavoor, was spotted by taxi drivers at a bus stand at Karunagappally, following which the local police were alerted. She was soon admitted to the Karunagappally Taluk Hospital.

The woman, reported to be nine-months pregnant, had gone missing when she was brought to the SAT Hospital by her husband for delivery that was scheduled for Wednesday.

After being alerted, the police traced her mobile phone to Ernakulam.

In Vellore

She was later suspected to have reached Vellore on Thursday, soon after which a police team had left for the place in a bid to locate her.

According to Medical College station house officer C. Binu Kumar, it has turned out that the woman was not pregnant.

“Medical tests have brought to light that an abortion had taken place, lending credence to the suspicion that she could have fled from the hospital to escape the consequences. She had boarded a train and managed to reach Chennai, following which she decided to return home,” he said.
