ISO certification

A petrol bunk and oil marketing store run by the Sankagiri Lorry Owners’ Association in Sankagiri town have received ISO Certification 9001:2015.

Sankagiri is a major lorry hub of the country. The lorry industry took its root in Sankagiri town near Salem city with 20 vehicles way back in 1959. The lorry industry has developed leaps and bounds here and at present accounted for a whopping 15,000 lorries criss-crossing all over the country.

The lorry operators joined together and launched the Sankagiri Lorry Owners’ Association in a small way in 1974 and at present it has 3,000 members on its rolls.

The association has introduced various facilities for the benefit of its members. It introduced the smart card facility to enable the members and the crew to fill the petrol / diesel at concessional price in the Indian Oil retail outlets across the country.

This paved way for the members to carry little money during all India visits. The members can renew the smart cards by paying the money at the Association itself, or through internet or through the banks.

The Sankagiri Lorry Owners’ Association is running Indian Oil Corporation petrol bunk, which has been topping among all the retail outlets in the country in the marketing of petrol and diesel for many years.

The association also marketed oil, lubricants, automobile spares, LPG through its oil marketing store. Besides, it also operated the recovery van service for shifting the vehicles that developed snags to the nearby workshops.

The ISO Certification is for maintaining quality management system standard.

K.P.R. Selvaraj, president of the association, said that it had applied for the certification recently.
