A 20-game Big Ten men’s basketball season will be a reality next season. Thursday, we learned which 10 of the league’s teams will play at Iowa during the season.
First, the three that will not: Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue. The Hawkeyes will face each of them on the road.
Now, the three the Hawkeyes will play only at Carver-Hawkeye Arena: Illinois, Maryland, Michigan.
Finally, the seven clubs Iowa will play both home and away: Indiana, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rutgers, Wisconsin.
The schedule itself will be announced in August.
Iowa’s knoown nonconference opponents are Iowa State and Savannah State in Iowa City, Northern Iowa in Des Moines on Dec. 15 as part of the Hy-Vee Classic, and two teams among Connecticut, Oregon and Syracuse at the 2K Classic at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Nov. 14-15.
There also will be a game to be named later as part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. In addition, there could be a game against a Big East foe as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games. Iowa was included in that event in 2015 and 2016, but not last year.
