EDMC, SDMC demolish 55 illegal constructions

In a drive against illegal construction, East and South Delhi Municipal Corporations (EDMC and SDMC) on Wednesday demolished 55 properties constructed illegally over agriculture land in Baba Haridas Nagar under Najafgarh Zone. Also, continuing sealing action, all three municipal corporations also sealed 40 properties for violating the municipal norms.

“The action was jointly taken by Special Task Force (STF) consists of officers of the revenue department Delhi Government and Najafgarh Zone of the SDMC,” said a senior SDMC official.

He also said the action was taken in police presence. The SDMC sealed three properties at nine points for misuse in Sukhdev Vihar. While, North Delhi Municipal Corporation has sealed 16 properties in Ramesh Nagar, Narela and Paschim Vihar for misusing the spaces. The civic body also carried out a massive anti encroachment drive at Zakhira Chars Mandi (Karampura).

Meanwhile, east body has also sealed 15 properties in Shahdara while demolished five building illegally constructed in Seelampur area and confiscated objects of various shops running on roads in a drive against encroachments.

Traders in the national Capital have been hit hard after building department of the municipal corporations had started sealing business establishments for non-payment of conversion charges, encroachment and illegal construction on the instructions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee.

Thousands of shops have been sealed since last December and there is still no sigh of relief amid all the alleged efforts put up by all concerned stakeholders.
