Hari Singh (60) from Hadiguda village of Rayagada district used to frequently suffer from dyspepsia, flatulence and an unwell stomach. Last August, things took a serious turn. His condition worsened drastically.

But that was until Utkal Alumina’s CSR team arrived on the scene. On a regular visit to his village, one of the members of the medical team spotted Hari in a very frail state sitting in a corner of his home. He was diagnosed with IBS (Intermittent Bowel Syndrome) and given medicine to reduce his pain. He was advised to visit the company’s health centre at Nuapada.

The results are there for all to see. One thing led to another, and Singh soon found himself firmly on the road to recovery. Now, he is physically much fitter. Singh is not alone. Approximately 1lakh people from the adjoining 48 villages of Kasipur swear by Utkal Alumina’s healthcare efforts, which apparently have transformed their lives for the better.

The Utkal Alumina’s health centre at Nuapada has been very well-received among the masses. President and unit head of Utkal Alumina N Nagesh says, “The company is constructing a 50-bed, full-fledged multi-specialty hospital at its Oshapada residential complex, which will be operational very shortly. The entire society around Utkal Alumina refinery and mines will immensely benefit from the facility once it goes on stream."

Taking it a step further, the company has come up with medical services through specialists like gynecologists and paediatricians who visit the centre on a weekly basis.
