CM Yogi Adityanath advocated capital punishment in rape cases of minors

Alarmed with the growing attack on modesty of minors, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath here on Wednesday advocated capital punishment in rape cases of minors.

"A proposal of making necessary amendment in the law to facilitate death sentence for the accused involved in rape cases with the minors will be soon sent to the Centre," asserted Yogi while directing the UP police to take prompt and necessary action to check growing cases of sexual abuse particularly of the minors. 

Yogi gave above direction while holding a meeting on law and order front with principal secretary, Home, Arvind Kumar, DGP, OP Singh and other senior police officers of the state here at Shastri Bhawan on Wednesday afternoon. 

Yogi also stressed urgent need of further strengthening of the Women Power Line-1090 services and to connect it with the Dial-100 as well as with Anti-Romeo Squad, formed to check crime against women. He also directed to spread awareness of the above services particularly amongst the girls and women so that the services could be extended more effectively. 

Showing his concern over sudden spurt in cases of crime, Yogi gave stern warning to the cops asking them to pull up their socks or be ready to face action. ``In case of outbreak of law and order, responsibility from constable till district police chief will be fixed and stern action will be taken”, Yogi asserted while adding that the government would not make any comprises on law and order front and action will be taken against those police officials who failed to deliver. 

Yogi also directed OP Singh to revive the `beat patrolling’ concept as only through alertness, promptness and a better rapport with the public, the law and order could be maintained. Yogi also asked the officers to take `foot patrolling’ for better monitoring and also to draw a traffic plan so growing chaos on the roads could be controlled. He also asked the officers to ensure that only honest and hard-working policemen should be posted as police station incharges and on other prominent places.
