In a case of rape and murder of 11-year-old girl in Surat, a man from Andhra Pradesh came forward claiming that the victim is his daughter.

Dead body of the unidentified girl was dumped in Pandesara area of Surat after she was exploited sexually for around a week. The body was found on April 6, 2018. In order to establish identity of the girl and her family Gujarat police scanned almost 8000 profiles of missing girls in Gujarat and other two States. The police have also displayed posters of the girl at 1200 places at strategic points in Surat and surrounding areas. The body of the girl sustained more than 80 injury marks.

Meanwhile according to the police the man who claimed to be father of the victim came along with a police officer from Andhra Pradesh. He produced Aadhaar Card which according to him was of the victim. He said that his daughter was missing since October last year. The police however decided to conduct DNA test to decide paternity. Sources in Surat police said that finger prints of the victim didn’t match with the Aadhaar card produced by the man from Andhra Pradesh. Besides, face of the girl too seemed different than the photo in the Aadhaar card. However the police are still waiting for the DNA report.

Going by the features of the victim, the police initially believed that she might be from Bengal or Odisha. The State police had also sought for the help of Bengal and Odisha Police in the case. The police has already registered a case of rape and booked unidentified accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso Act) and announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for anyone providing any lead or information about the girl or her family. A local builder from Surat on his part has announced a reward of Rs 5,00,000 from the same purpose.
