Annual performance assessments will take 3 days; free admission
PALM COAST — Forty-four bands from 39 Florida schools will perform on stage at Flagler Auditorium April 23, 24 and 25 as part of the annual Florida Bandmasters Association State North High School Concert Band Music Performance Assessment.
The event is free and open to the public. All performances will take place in the auditorium, 5500 E. State Road 100, Palm Coast.
The assessment process is administered by the Florida Bandmasters Association as a learning and assessment tool to help the state’s band programs with professional feedback and evaluation, according to a media release from the auditorium. Many school districts have adopted the MPA as a major portion of band students’ Subject Area Exam.
Each band’s stage performance is evaluated in the areas of performance fundamentals, technical preparation, and musical effect by three state-certified adjudicators. Following the stage performance, each band moves to the sight-reading room where they are evaluated on their ability to perform a march and an overture that they have never seen before.
Judges rate each band’s performance on a five-point scale ranging from "superior" to "poor"
