Pooram festivities begin

The festivities of Thrissur Pooram began here on Thursday with the ceremonial ‘Kodiyettam’ (flag hoisting) of Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi temples, the main participants of the pooram.

Kodiyettam was held in the other eight participating temples too. Lalur, Ayyanthole Karthyayani, Kanimangalam, Karumukku, Panamukkumpilly, Chembookkavu, Choorakkattukavu, and Naithalakkavu are the other participating temples of the pooram.

While Kodiyettam of the Thiruvambadi temple was held between 11 a.m. and 11.45 a.m., the flag was hoisted at Paramekkavu temple between 11.45 a.m. and 12.15 p.m. Procession was taken out from the Thiruvambadi temple and flags were hoisted at Naikanal and Naduvilal by 3 p.m.

Pooram on Wednesday

Procession from Paramekkavu temple was taken out with five elephants to Manikandanal and flag was hoisted there too.

The pooram will be celebrated on April 25. The festivities of the pooram day will be repeated the next day. Sample fireworks will be held on April 23 and exhibition of elephant accoutrements will be held on April 24.

Meanwhile, the construction of pooram panthal at Naikanal, Naduvilal and Manikandanal are progressing on Swaraj Round.

Making of elephant accoutrements are also in the final stage.
