It is very rare that I am introduced to a truly innovative product. Especially when it actually addresses two different trends successfully. Such is the case with Yumix - a unique and patented two compartment container alcoholic beverage that comes in three flavors.
Yumix is offered in Margarita, Sea Breeze (cranberry and grapefruit) and Orange Mango. The packaging is a bottle with a twist off bottom that contains the alcohol (either premium tequila or vodka). You open both and pour the alcohol into the main bottle. Mix and enjoy.
I tried the Margarita and the Sea Breeze and was surprised how good it was coming from a pre-packaged product. Pour either of these into a glass over ice and you might not realize it was not made behind the bar. But then that's the idea. It is designed, of course, for that picnic on the beach or other location where pre-packaged beverages make sense.
As I said, it also follows two trends. Trend number one is those skinny cocktails that have appealed to the health conscious and those looking to lose or maintain their weight.
In this case, at under 40 calories per serving (the Margarita is 30 and the Sea Breeze is 35), it is a far cry from the 100+ calories from any bar cocktail of the same size.
But what makes Yumix superior from the skinny cocktails on the market? The ingredients. Most others are chock full of chemicals, artificial sweeteners and preservatives. Yumix has no preservatives and no added sweeteners. Just fresh juices and, of course, the tequila or vodka.
The other (and obvious) trend is in the pre-packaged category. My first question when examining this product, is why the two compartments? Why not offer the cocktail premixed? Why the extra step? And the answer is an attention to quality.
They already use only fruit juices and alcohol, but keeping the two separate until you are ready to drink, ensures its fresh taste. Remember, Yumix contains no preservatives. Think of making a margarita and letting sit for an extended period. Try that against one made fresh behind the bar. Now you get it!
I look forward to trying the Orange Mango next and hope to see additional flavors hit the market soon.
