Constable transferred for abusing farmers

SP issues code of behaviour for cops

The video of a civil constable’s “unruly behaviour” surfaced on electronic media on Wednesday, prompting the Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranganath to attach him to the Armed Reserve police.

The 90-second clip purportedly shows constable Ramakrishna of Madgulapally police station hurling expletives at the farmers waiting with their produce at the Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) paddy procurement centre.

Farmers retaliate

The farmers were allegedly drunk and also retaliated with foul language, a police official said.

Mr. Ranganath, in a statement in the evening, said the constable’s actions were “unbecoming of a police official, and highly unwarranted”.

He was soon relieved from his services at the police station and attached with the Armed Reserve police at the headquarters.

The police chief later issued a code of behaviour for all police officials in the district.

“Behaviour and body language of the official with the public, poor and farmers should be cordial and friendly,” Mr. Ranganath said.
