American Girl shutting Wisconsin facility, impacting 135 jobs

American Girl, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mattel Inc. said Thursday that it is closing its Wilmot, Wis. call center and distribution facility, impacting 135 jobs. Affected workers can apply for other jobs within the company. The distribution center will close June 29, 2018 and the call center is slated for closure during the first quarter of 2019. Warehouse work will be absorbed into the brand's facilities in DeForest and Middleton. American Girl will hire workers at these facilities to handle the additional duties. Mattel is scheduled to announce first-quarter earnings after the closing bell on April 26. Mattel shares are down nearly 1% in Thursday trading, and down 10.5% for the year so far. The S&P 500 index is up 0.5% for 2018 to date.
