‘Doubts have increased after presser’

Ramadoss calls for transfer of case to CBI

PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Wednesday said that Governor Banwarilal Purohit shouldn’t aid the attempts to destroy evidence in the case where female students were allegedly lured by suspended assistant professor Nirmala Devi.

“Instead of clarifying issues, the Governor’s answers [at the press conference in the Raj Bhavan] have complicated matters. The doubts have increased. The Governor shouldn’t interfere in matters outside his purview. The press conference was totally unnecessary,” Mr. Ramadoss said in a statement.

According to him, Tamil Nadu had seen unprecedented protests over the Cauvery issue and a corrupt minority government was in power. “The Governor did not bother to do anything about all that. But, he chose to address the media on an issue about higher officials seeking sexual favours from female students. What was the need for it? He must clarify,” he said.

“If the Governor has nothing to hide, he must try to clear his name. He must not wield powers that he doesn’t have to protect the people involved [in the scandal]. This case should be transferred to the CBI,” he said.
