No shortage of the currency in the state : UP govt

UP government quoting the Reserve Bank of India has said there is no shortage of the currency in the state. The government said that notes of all denominations are available in adequate quantity in cash chest of the major PSU banks like SBI, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, Central Bank of India and two private banks ICICI and HDFC bank. 

A state government spokesman said   the Reserve bank of India has informed the state government the situation is normal in the state and there is no shortage of currency in any part of the state.  He said the RBI said there is no shortage of currency in all of the 17,000 bank branches across the 75 districts of the state. Besides this there are over 30,000 Bank Mitra. He said the banks have been issued instructions by the government to ensure supply of the currency to over 19,000 ATM operational in the state.  

The spokesman said that the banks have communicated to the government that they have adequate currency stocks in their respective cash chest and the same is being supplied to the ATMs.  He said in cash of non availability of cash in ATMs the customers can get the cash from the bank branches. The spokesman said the RBI is keeping a close watch on the situation and constantly reviewing the supply of cash in ATMs. 

Meanwhile the Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has said that there was international conspiracy behind the currency crisis in the country.

"The NDA government printed maximum amount of currency, but where is the cash if it’s not there in ATMs?," Akhilesh Yadav questioned. SP president charged that the currency is being held back by the RBI and the financial institutions on the directions of the Central government.

"There is cash crunch even when paper, ink and machines were brought from abroad. I think there is an international conspiracy to hit Indian economy," he alleged. Akhilesh also demanded a high level probe into the matter.
