TV presenter Dale Winton, much loved for enlivening bland daytime shows with his arch but warm brand of camp, died at his London home at the age of 62 on Wednesday, his agent has said. Winton will be best remembered for Supermarket Sweep and In It To Win It but was also a DJ. He spoke on TV about his battle with depression in 2016.

Trump ‘will quit Kim talks if not fruitful’
US President Donald Trump said last night that he will “walk out” of talks with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un if they are not productive. He also insisted that the US would keep up “our campaign of maximum pressure” on North Korea to “denuclearise”. Trump was speaking at a joint press conference with Japan’s Shinzo Abe.
Woman killed by car crashing into house
A woman died yesterday evening in Bristol when a car crashed into her two-storey house, causing “significant damage”, police say. A man and a woman who had been in the car were arrested at the scene in Yeolands Drive, Bristol, and neighbours were evacuated from their homes because it was feared the vehicle had hit a gas pipe.
England to ban plastic straws and stirrers
Plastic drinks straws, stirrers and cotton buds may soon be banned in England, in a bid to limit the amount of plastic pollution. If approved during a consultation this year, the plan would mean Government experts working with industry to develop alternative products. Around 8.5 billion plastic straws are thrown away every year.
Debenhams profits slump by 85%
Clothing retailer Debenhams has reported an 85% slump in half-year profits, partly because of bad weather forcing it to temporarily close 100 stores. Sales were already struggling, however. Pre-tax profits for the six months to 3 March were just £13.5m, compared to £87.8m for the same period last year, taking into account one-off costs of £28.7m.
NYC nanny guilty of murdering children
A former nanny has been found guilty of murdering two of the children under her care in a luxury New York City apartment in October 2012. Yoselyn Ortega had pleaded insanity, saying she had hallucinated an order from the devil to stab Lucia Krim, six and Leo Krim, two, but the jury rejected that defence and convicted her of murder.
Woman sucked from plane died of ‘blunt trauma’
A 43-year-old business woman who was sucked partially out of a Southwest Airlines flight from New York to Dallas when a window shattered, before passengers dragged her back in, died from “blunt trauma” to her head, neck and torso, US officials say. Jennifer Riordan was out of the plane up to her waist after an engine exploded.
Nigel Farage’s children have German passports
Former Ukip leader Nigel Farage has confirmed that his two children with German wife Kirsten Mehr, from whom he is now separated, have German passports as well as British. In a podcast with former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg, Farage also said he felt Britain had lost the Second World War because it led to the loss of the Empire.
Planet hunter Tess launches successfully
Nasa’s latest space telescope, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (Tess), launched successfully yesterday from Cape Canaveral in Florida, after two days of delays. It will greatly step up the search for planets orbiting stars other than our own sun and should operate for up to 20 years thanks to an energy-saving orbit using the moon’s gravity.

A lawsuit against US magician David Copperfield has revealed the secrets behind one of his most famous illusions.
A 58-year-old British man is suing Copperfield over injuries he claims he sustained at a 2013 show while participating in the Lucky 13 illusion, in which members of the audience are made to “disappear”.
