Sahir Ludhianvi biopic: Does Sanjay Leela Bhansali want Alia Bhatt to play Amrita Pritam?

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is going to make a film on poet Sahir Ludhianvi and he wants Alia Bhatt to play Amrita Pritam, according to buzz. The film has been in news from longest time and Abhishek Bachchan has been locked to play Sahir. Sahir and Amrita’s love story has often found in poems and songs, so Sanjay wants that aspect in his films. Earlier the buzz was that Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone will do the role of Amrita but Priyanka opted out and Deepika clarified that she was never offered the role. And now it seems that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has found his leading lady for the film.

According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, Alia is Bhansali’s choice for the role of Amrita Pritam. “I find Alia’s growth as an actress to be truly fascinating. She exudes a certain poise and confidence that is rare for actors her age. She is now at a stage where her career decisions will determine whether she joins the hall of all-time greats. It would be most interesting to work with Alia,” Bhansali told the daily.

Sanjay Leela’s previous release Paadmavat was a huge hit, but was delayed for release due to protest by Karni Sena in the country. The film got into lots of trouble before release. Talking about Ali, she will be seen in Raazi playing a spy, and she is paired opposite Vicky Khushal, the shoot of the film is completed and it is directed by Meghna Gulzar. She is also doing a movie Gully Boy with Ranveer Singh.
