STAUNTON - Court records show that a Staunton woman was stabbed twice last week by her intoxicated husband, according to an affidavit filed in Augusta County Circuit Court.

Two large butcher knives, one covered in blood, were also found in the suspect's sport utility vehicle after he wrecked it while allegedly fleeing the scene of the stabbing, according to a sheriff's office investigator

The woman survived and has since been released from the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, where she was airlifted following the stabbing.

The attack took place April 10 at 868 Balsley Road in Staunton, where William J. Boxler, 58, is alleged to have stabbed the 57-year-old woman, according to the affidavit. The victim was stabbed in the back of her left shoulder and chest.

Investigators found blood on the floor of a hallway and in a bedroom at the Balsley Road residence, court documents show.

Boxler reportedly fled the scene but didn't get very far after flipping his Ford SUV on Hermitage Road near Eureka Mill Road. Authorities said he was intoxicated when arrested.

Boxler was also airlifted to Charlottesville following the crash and has since been released from the hospital.

He faces charges of malicious wounding, breaking and entering, and violating a protective order. In Charlottesville, Boxler was also charged with malicious injury to a police officer, according to an Augusta County Sheriff's Office arrest log.

He is incarcerated at Middle River Regional Jail.
