Missing persons appeal

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing Endeavour Hills boy Joel Pulelisi.

The 15-year-old was last seen around 6-7pm last night at his home address on Edward Freeth Drive.

Today's target word

The letters for today's target word are:

E C T T U R N E A

Let me know if you've solved it.

And now we will never speak of it again*.

Yesterday's answer was INTROVERT. I don't know if anyone solved this one. Perhaps someone did, but was too shy to send us an email.

*That's the hint from our homepage editor.

On this day

On this day in 1984, Advance Australia Fair was adopted as the official national anthem of Australia.

There had been one change to the lyrics, one week before it was added into circulation. The original version began with ‘Australian sons let us rejoice’; this was changed to ‘Australians all let us rejoice’.

Opposition leader Andrew Peacock said the change to the lyrics was ludicrous, while the RSL's national secretary called switching out ‘God Save The Queen’ for the new anthem “the thin end of the wedge to move us towards republicanism”.

I was actually scooped on the 'on this day' this morning: Justin and Kate were talking about it on 3AW about 7am this morning:

Last days of the Tandberg exhibition

It's your last chance to go to the exhibition of Ron Tandberg's 2017 cartoons at The Age's office.

The exhibition in the upper gallery at 655 Collins Street finishes this Friday.

This letter in yesterday's paper is a lovely tribute to the cartoons:

A tribute to our Ron
I saw the Tandberg exhibition this week at The Age's Media House. Ihave always been a big fan, but seeing his 2017 output – full-size, in colour and each cartoon coupled with the text that inspired it – adds another dimension entirely. There is also a chatty little video where Ron shows how he created his iconic takes on Fraser, Howard, Rudd, Abbott, Turnbull et al. It ends soon. Do not miss it.

Charity box dog-gone

Do you recognise this man?

Police want to speak to him about the theft of a donation box from a Coburg business.

Police said a man was in a bottle shop on Sydney Road when he allegedly took the Guide Dog-shaped donation box from the counter, hid it in his jacket and then walked out about 3pm on Sunday, April 1.

He has been described as Caucasian, in his 30s, with brown hair, a beard and moustache.

If you have any information you can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Today's brainteaser

I'm afraid I do not have a new brainteaser of my own to run this morning.

However, this puzzle went viral on social media last year and managed to stump thousands of people. Can you solve it?

I'll post a hint at 8am and the answer at 9am.

Traffic's getting worse

Melbourne will have an extra five hours of peak traffic by 2030 if the government does not fix the city's congestion crisis, the state's leading infrastructure adviser has warned.

Transport reporter Timna Jacks write that drivers could spend 20 per cent more time sitting in traffic as congestion significantly worsens over the next 12 years, modeling released by Infrastructure Victoria has revealed.

The evening peak period will start as early as 2.30pm and end as late as 8.30pm in Melbourne's outer suburbs, as the daily distances that people travel grows by 25 per cent.

Just out of interest, do you find that your drive to work is taking longer that it used to? Timna and I are working on some more articles about traffic, and it would be interesting to hear from anyone who has noticed traffic getting worse that it used to be. Send me an email (craig.butt@theage.com.au) if you've got something to share.

Docklands armed robbery

A worker at a Docklands fast food outlet was assaulted during an armed robbery last night.

Police said a man entered the outlet on Batman Hill Drive about 11.40pm armed with a metal pole.

He assaulted a male worker before grabbing some cash and running away.

The worker was treated for minor injuries.

A 33-year-old St Kilda man was arrested near Southern Cross station and Bourke Street about two hours later.

He was charged with armed robbery and other theft and criminal damage charges and will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court this morning.

Minor technical issues

For some reason images and photos are not showing up properly on the blog this morning. I'll send an email to the tech guys later about it to see if they can fix it.

Also, thanks to everyone who replied to my callout a couple of weeks ago for feedback on the new Melbourne Express blog. When I get a chance, I'm going to put together a list of all the best suggestions and send them to the tech crew to see if they can improve the blog.

As always, send me an email if you've got feedback:

A Melbourne autumn

Reader Judith - who has essentially become the Melbourne Express's resident photographer - has shared a lovely Melbourne autumn pic.

She writes that it was a glorious morning yesterday, so she decided to take this shot of the Eureka Tower from the Royal Botanic Gardens.
