866 killed in jumbo attacks in 10 yrs

As many as 866 persons were killed in elephants attack in different districts during the last 10 years from 2008-09 to 2017-18, informed Forests and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJP MLA Dilip Ray.

The Minister informed that 1,834 persons were injured during the period.

According the data, the highest number of 129 persons died in Sundargarh district followed by 128 in Dhenkanal, 115 in Keonjhar, 88 in Angul, 54 in Mayurbhanj, 46 in Sambalpur, 41 in Koraput, 32 in Ganjam, 30 in Jharsguda, 29 in Cuttack, 26 in Bargarh, 19 in Deogarh, 17 in Kendrapada, 14 in Nabarangpur, 13 in Kandhamal, 12 in Baleswar, 11 in Kalahandi  and nine died in Khorda district during the period.  

No death due to elephant attack was reported in Puri district, according to the Minister’s information.
