~Titan Eyeplus in association with Goonj makes a contribution towards minimizing visual impairment~

April 19, 2018: #IForEye is a new initiative by Titan Eyeplus which attempts to provide the underprivileged in India with free spectacles. It is shocking to realise that almost 550 million people in India need eye correction, out of which a major percentage cannot afford a pair of spectacles. Titan Eyeplus in association with Goonj, an award winning voluntary organisation, takes a step towards minimizing the visual impairment, by encouraging people to come forward and give up their old, used spectacles at Titan Eyeplus Stores.

A pair of spectacles can improve the vision of an underprivileged person who is in an urgent need of vision correction. The #IForEye initiative encourages people to come forward and donate a pair of eyeglasses at Titan Eyeplus Stores across the country.

Speaking on this initiative, Ronnie Talati, CEO, Eyewear, Titan Company Limited, said, “In India almost 550 million people have vision problems, out of which only 30% wear spectacle. The main reason for this disparity is their lack of knowledge about needing vision correction; people are unaware that they need spectacles, access to quality eye care and financial constraints. While as a brand we are trying our best to educate consumers as well as offer world class optical experience, through this initiative we want to reach out to the latter- these are people who cannot afford a pair of spectacles. We hope to make a small contribution towards minimizing this number to some extent, with the #IForEye initiative. Most of us have a pair of spectacles at home that we have outgrown. Why not come forward and donate it at the nearest Titan Eyeplus store. Let’s take a second to remember that change begins at home.

Goonj has been working pan India on neglected issues and neglected communities for the last 19 years, dealing with more than 3,000 tons of clothing and other urban underutilised materials every year. It transforms this urban discard into a powerful resource for rural development. Goonj currently works in parts of 22 states on a range of issues from water, sanitation, to education, women’s health and disaster relief.

Goonj focuses on the basic but neglected needs of rural communities and reaches them basic material needs material with dignity. Through this tie up with Titan Eyeplus, Goonj will be addressing the basic need of spectacles for people struggling with visual impairment. At the end of this month long campaign, Goonj will receive all the contributed eyeglasses from Titan Eyeplus stores, and channelize them to those in need across the country

Sharing his thoughts on the campaign, Anshu Gupta, Founder, Goonj said, “Not being able to see properly affects a vast number of people in a lot of ways. Kids aren’t able to study properly, drivers can’t drive properly, and it is such a basic problem that can be fixed easily. The solution is our unused spectacles lying somewhere at home. Goonj has been working on bringing attention to these basic issues and needs where people of this country can play a role. This initiative gives every person an opportunity to do something for the society”.

In return for giving their eyeglasses customers get a 20% discount on a pair of brand new Titan Eyeplus frame. The campaign starts from April 19 and ends on May 14. Eyeglasses can be contributed at all Titan Eyeplus stores across the country.
