Elon Musk's Boring tunnel project could embark on a fast track in LA: report

A committee of the Los Angeles's city council unanimously has approved an environmental review exemption to a tunnel by Elon Musk's Boring Co., the Los Angeles Times reported. The tunnel, which could run 2.7 miles, would serve as testing grounds for Boring Co. engineers. A full City Council approval of the exemption could shorten Boring Co. construction times, the newspaper said. That faster track, however, has been criticized by some who say digging through a densely populated area should require "full analysis," according to the report. The Boring Co. earlier this month raised $112.52 million in shares, according to a Monday filing. The company aims to build underground tunnels to ease traffic congestion and reportedly grew out of Musk's frustration with Los Angeles traffic. Musk is CEO of Tesla Inc. and privately held Space Exploration Technologies Corp., or SpaceX.
