Special squads to curb petty crimes in G’gram

The Gurugram Police will form a special squad to curb the incidents of chain snatching in the city. The city police have also identified 14 places where the incidents of snatching are rampant.

Commissioner of Gurugram police, Sandeep Khirwar, said that an anti snatching staffs of the Gurugram police have nabbed several gang members who were involved in such cases. “To keep an eye on bikers and public places we will increase police presence. Special Police Officer along with police personnel will be deployed across the city to curb such incidents,” he said.

He further informed that two police personnel and one special police officer (SPOs) will be deployed at the identified places. “The police will also collect the data of the gangs who were involved in the past incidents,” he added.

According to the police, criminals from Delhi, Nuh in Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar have stuck across the city. The police have, however, claimed that they have busted a couple of gangs involved in such activities.

In the past three months around 65 snatching cases have been registered across the city police stations and 16 snatchers have been arrested by the Anti Snatching staff.

According to official data, a number of such cases registered with sector-29, DLF Phase-II, City police station, civil lines, sector-10A, Udyog Vihar, Palam Vihar, sector-5 old Gurugram, Badshahpur and Sohna police station.

Meanwhile, the department has identified the point where the police personnel will be deployed and these are DLF area, Sushant Lok, MG Road, Leisure Valley Park, Gurudwara Road, Rajiv Chowk,  Iffco Chowk, Shankar Chowk, Sector-14 and Sadar Bazar.

Recently the city police had received 60 Honda motorbikes under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. “For special squads, we are planning to deploy 4 to 5 patrolling vehicles for each 35 police stations in Gurugram. Residents of Gurugram will feel safe with the presence of these squads,” a senior police officer, said.

The squads to patrol on all city roads round-the-clock so that their striking visibility became a deterrent for chain snatchers, robbers and other criminals. The squad's personnel were also of great help to accident victims and senior citizens as well.
