Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Thursday said that people of Pernem are firm on their decision that they will not allow Mopa airport to function if they are not given first preference for jobs at the airport.

Speaking on the sidelines of ‘The Grape Escapade 2018’ in the city, Ajgaonkar said that they have spoken and discussed the employment issue with the union minister and he has agreed to grant their demands.

“The first preference for jobs at the airport will be given to the people who have lost their land. If there are no eligible candidates for a particular post then the authorities can get employees from other states,” he added.

He also said that the chief minister before his illness had cleared and given relief to all those who lost their land due to the development of the airport, adding that, “union minister is working according to the roadmap and time-to-time he will be implementing it.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Limited Nilesh Cabral spoke about the electric cycles which will be made available in the city for the locals and the tourists. “These cycles can cover a distance of 20 kilometres per hour at one charge and are good for adventure trails and this is our first step towards the go-green initiative,” he stated.
