In order to promote the Odisha hand woven fabrics, Facebook campaign ‘Six Yards and 365 Days’ will be launched in Odisha on April 22 here.

The event will include a talk by a weaver who would be sharing the concerns of the weaving community, an interesting quiz on handlooms and ramp walk by all attendees. Along with recognising the winners of the quiz conducted around handloom weavers, women who have touched milestone numbers of draping handloom sarees such as 100, 200, 300, 500, 600, 800 would also be felicitated.

Sunita Budhiraja who started the ‘saree movement’, a Facebook campaign in sync with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative in August 2015 with three other members, said, “Odisha is very important to us as it has the third highest number of members in the Group and maximum women have completed their milestone sarees of 100th, 200th, 300th and so on. I am looking forward to meet the women who have enthusiastically participated in the handloom movement thus providing a much needed impetus to the handloom industry.”

Renowned Odishi dancer Meera Das would be honoured at the event for her contribution to Odishi. Budhiraja, who has conceptualised the campaign, would be touching the milestone of draping her 800th handloom saree in a rare green beauty and Preetijyotsna Deo will be flaunting her 650th handloom saree.
