Cannot be left unmanned and must be numbered

Taking care of motorist safety, the Delhi Police have revised their standing orders on placement and procurement of mobile barricades after nine years.

As per new orders, no barricades should be left unmanned on the roads, which causes traffic issues . Also, barricades must be numbered so that they can be accounted during usage.

In February this year, a 21-year-old man was killed after his neck got stuck in an iron wire tied between two police barricades placed in west Delhi’s Netaji Subhash Place.

The standing orders over procurement, maintenance and operational usage of mobile barricades, the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik stated that in case of any mishap due to unmanned barricade, the SHO or Traffic Inspector concerned will be held responsible.

The order reads that barricades kept during the night patrolling have to be removed to a safe place.

No barricades should be procured through private sponsors and no commercial or private advertisement shall be allowed on them. Only the names of the district should be displayed in a uniform manner as per the design approved, the order stated.

While checking

When the checking is on, the support staff should hold their fire arms in ready-to-respond posture so as to act swiftly in case of any need.

All condemned and junked barricades lying under the jurisdictions of police stations across the city should be collected and deposited with the Provisioning and Logistics Unit for disposal.

The Commissioner order reads that the placement of barricades should be approved by ACP so that these are not placed at points which cause traffic congestion or inconvenience to public.

In case there is no proper light on the road due to power failure, fog, rain or smog, the picket in charged should inform his seniors and remove the barricades to a safer place. No barricade should be left on the roadside.

The placement of barricades should be done in such a manner that the staff performing duties could also protect themselves in case of any over speeding .
