Dynetics has been awarded $32 million contract for Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Phase III of the Gremlins program.
This contract provides for the research, development, and demonstration of safe and reliable aerial launch and recovery of multiple unmanned air vehicles, with traceability to an objective system capable of employing and recovering diverse distributed payloads in volley quantities.
Work is expected to be completed by January 2020.
The Gremlins program plans to explore numerous technical areas, including: Launch and recovery techniques, equipment and aircraft integration concepts, Low-cost, limited-life airframe designs and High-fidelity analysis, precision digital flight control, relative navigation and station keeping, according to DARPA.
Dynetics is developing low-cost, reusable unmanned air systems (UASs) for the DARPA Gremlins program. Gremlins will be launched from existing military aircraft while out of range of adversary defenses. The Gremlins architecture enables other critical technologies such as advanced payloads, autonomous operations, and distributed battle management of swarming systems.
When Gremlins complete their mission, a C-130 transport aircraft retrieves them in the air and transports them to a base of operations where ground crews refurbish and prepare them for their next use within 24 hours.
Ukriane will soon set up its General Advanced Research & Development Agency (GARDA), modeled along the American Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) at Igor the Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI). This was stated by UKROBORONPROM Director General Pavlo Bukin during his speech at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during the parliamentary hearings "National Innovation System: State and Legislative Development"
Ukraines state run Ukroboronprom has appointed former head of US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Anthony Tether as member of UOP Supervisory Board. Anthony Tether has been in charge of Ukroboronprom long-term development for over a year and a half
The US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has completed its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) program to develop a naval vessel that can traverse thousands of kilometers without a single crew on board for months at a time. DARPA has transferred the technology demonstration vessel, Sea Hunter, to the Office of Naval Research (ONR) which will continue developing the revolutionary prototype vehicle—the first of what could ultimately become an entirely new class of unmanned ocean-going vessel—as the Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MDUSV)
Orbital ATK has entered into a contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to study potential integration of turbine and hypersonic engine technologies into a new aircraft propulsion system under DARPAs Advanced Full Range Engine (AFRE) program. The AFRE program seeks to develop a new aircraft propulsion system that could operate over the full range of speeds from conventional runway low-speed takeoff through hypersonic flight and then back to a conventional landing
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded Phase 2 contracts for its low-cost, reusable unmanned aerial systems (UASs) project dubbed ‘Gremlins to the two teams. The winning teams - one is led by Dynetics, Inc
