A judge slammed killer Mikolai Mavashev at his sentencing Wednesday, saying Mavashav gunned down 19-year-old David Feliciano last year to protect his $1,000-a-day drug business and dragged his teen co-defendant into the killing.

Saratoga County Judge James A. Murphy II called Mavashev "diabolical" for plotting and then carrying out the killing at Feliciano's Mechanicville apartment.

While he characterized Mavashev, 20, of Halfmoon, as the mastermind he faulted Joseph Broscko, 18, of Clifton Park, for watching Feliciano die rather than getting him help after Mavashev shot him five times.

Emotions were raw as relatives and friends of Feliciano spoke out at the sentencings.

"This is my worst nightmare," the 19-year-old's mother, Bonnie Jones, told Saratoga County Court Judge James Murphy.

Both men pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Murphy sentenced Mavashev to 20 years to life in prison. Broscko will serve 18 years to life.

Both men pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the killing of 19-year-old David Feliciano who was found outside his Mechanicville home last summer.

Mavashev's lawyer, Cheryl Coleman, told the judge he wasn't a bad person, a comment that drew dark laughs from Feliciano's friends and family.

Matthew Chauvin, Broscko's lawyer, said there was a massive amount of drugs in Broscko's system when he killed Feliciano.

If convicted at trial, both men faced a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Mavashev is expected to be sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

Feliciano was shot on Aug. 7 at his Grove Street home. Feliciano was hit several times in the torso in the house and then stumbled outside, looking for help. He was found in the driveway. CPR could not save him, authorities said.

His relatives were expected to speak at the sentencing of the killers.
