Liverpool star Mohamed Salah makes classy admission as he targets Ian Rush record
MOHAMED SALAH is eager to beat Ian Rush’s record of 47 goals in a season for Liverpool but insists the team comes first.
Salah returned to the Premier League last summer, joining Liverpool in a deal worth an initial £37m from Roma.
And he’s consigned his sorry spell at Chelsea to distant memory by smashing in 40 goals in all competitions for the Reds.
Salah is seven goals shy of matching up to Liverpool legend Rush, who scored 47 times over the course of the 1983/4 campaign.
And the Egyptian’s classy admission as he looks to overhaul Rush’s record is sure to go down well with the Anfield faithful.
"There's a big chance to break the record, to be number one for a club like Liverpool, it's something huge," he said.
"I will be very happy if I break it. I'm happy about 40, I want to keep scoring, I want to be number one for the record.
"It's always good when you see your name with legends of a club like Liverpool, it's a different feeling and I'm very happy about that.
"But I always try to look at myself and I want more. I have 40 now, I'm telling myself: 'Why not? You can be number one!'

"I will try my best to break the record but, as I've said before, we play as 11 players, I play for the team.
"It's not about individual awards, it's something for the team. I'm sure if I have a chance to give it to someone else to score, I will - it's not about me, it's about us."
Liverpool have Premier League fixtures against West Brom, Stoke, Chelsea and Brighton to come as the season winds down.
And Salah will also have the opportunity to get on the scoresheet in the Champions League, with a semi-final tie and potential final on the cards.
