Narre Warren fatal shooting could be 'mistaken identity' as police investigate possible Comancheros link

The murder of a young boxing enthusiast in Melbourne's south-east could be linked to the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang in a case of mistaken identity, police believe.
Zabi Ezedyar was visiting a friend on Kurrajong Road in Narre Warren about 7:40pm on August 16 last year when he was shot several times in the upper body.
Police have today released CCTV footage of a Honda CRV that was seen in the area before the shooting in the hope someone can provide them with information.
They are also looking for a white 2014 or 2015 model Toyota Corolla that could be linked to the murder.
"We're satisfied that the CRV was in some way involved in the incident and we're becoming more confident of the involvement of the second vehicle, the Corolla," Detective Inspector Tim Day said.
He said police believed Mr Ezedyar could have been killed by mistake.

"This investigation we're looking into the possibility of OMCG [Outlaw Motor Cycle Gangs] activity, in particular Comancheros and other outlaw motorcycle gangs," he said.
"One of the hypotheses we're looking at is whether or not it was a case of mistaken identity.
"There's nothing in Zabi's background that [suggests] he would be a likely target of this shooting."
He urged anyone with information to come forward.
"Any piece of information … no matter how small can be a big deal to us."
Death of Zabi 'destroyed all of us'
Mr Ezedyar's grieving mother and sister pleaded for information.
Deana Ezedyar said her brother loved boxing and was devoted to his large family.
"He loved boxing, that was his passion. He wouldn't miss a day without it," she said.
"He had a heart of gold … very, very friendly. A very kind person. It's destroyed all of us.
"We think of him every day. We just want justice and whoever did this to come forward. If you've got family, you'll come forward."

Mr Ezedyar had moved to Melbourne from Perth and had just started living on his own when he was killed.
"This person could be out there doing this to someone else. It's not fair to take someone's life," Deana Ezedyar said.
"No one deserves that."
Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
