The subject of a recent Fairfield County crime alert who is accused of breaking into a Violet Township home and wanted for questioning about a fatal house fire was arrested April 15.
Raeqwan Hancock, 21, was arrested by Reynoldsburg police nine days after he allegedly was discovered by occupants of a residence in the 13100 block of Toll Gate Road at 10:30 p.m., wearing some of the occupants' clothing and eating their food.
Hancock, who's last known addresses were listed by the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office as a residence on Wild Flower Drive in Columbus and First Gate Road in Reynoldsburg, was apprehended at approximately 11:45 p.m., outside Heartland Bank, 6887 E. Main St.
According to Reynoldsburg Police Lt. Ron Wright, the suspect put up a fight before being detained.
"He did resist pretty much the entire time he was being arrested," Wright said. "They did have to use a Taser on him."
Hancock is being held in the Fairfield County Jail on a burglary charge related to the alleged April 6 incident in Violet Township. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Fairfield County Common Pleas Court on April 25.
Sheriff's officials this week said they had no additional information regarding Hancock.
Before his arrest, however, sheriff's deputy Alex Lape said his office wanted to question Hancock about a fatal fire in which one person died April 8 at 6285 Blacklick Eastern Road.
At that time, Lape did not call Hancock a suspect in the fatal fire but said law enforcement officials believe he had been at the residence before it caught fire sometime before 4:08 a.m. April 8.
"We can connect him to that address, but we have not connected him to the fire," Lape said. "He didn't live there."
According to sheriff's reports, Hancock was inside the residence he's accused of burglarizing April 6 when deputies arrived.
However, he reportedly escaped through a basement and adjoining garage before he could be apprehended. Lape said witnesses who confronted Hancock inside that residence told them Hancock said he was an alien and that people and the government were after him.
According to a press release the sheriff's office issued April 11, Hancock has a prior conviction for resisting arrest in Franklin County. He also is believed to be proficient in martial arts and was believed to be armed and dangerous before his arrest.
