A day after the municipal polls, several candidates, who fought the Ranchi Municipal Corporation elections, said that they will approach the State Election Commission over the voter list slip-ups that created much trouble on the polling day.

RMC, the State’s largest urban local body had locked the lowest voters’ turnout at 49.3 per cent among all the 34 ULBs of Jharkhand against the state average of over 65 percent.

BJP’s Deputy Mayoral candidate Sanjiv Vijayawargia condemned the district administration’s claims that had assured that the voters’ list of all 53 wards was made with utmost care.

“We will write to the State Election Commissioner. Ward wise survey must be done to rectify this fault at the earliest. Several attempts were made regarding this after the delimitation to make the district administration aware about this major blunder, however, nothing happened then.

Now, only after the intervention of State Election Commission, something can be done taking upcoming election into reference,” said Vijayawargia.

Other candidates have also raised questions on the voters’ list preparation. Dr. Rajesh Gupta, face of Indian National Congress (INC), said that it has become necessary to raise this important issue irrespective of the fact that the next civic poll will be organized after five years in 2023. “Soon the party will approach to the head of State Election Commission.

Also, we will submit a written application to the Governor. Due to this major fault, the voting percentage was registered lowest in the State Capital.”

Besides BJP and Congress, top contestants of All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU) and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) – JVM – P also stated that soon a complaint will be submitted to the State Election Commissioner, NN Pandey.

“The matter has been taken to the party high command, Babulal Marandi. In a day or two, the State Election Commissioner will be approached by our party senior leaders,” said Uttam Yadav, a Deputy Mayoral candidate from JVM-P. AJSU’s Deputy Mayoral candidate, Munchun Rai said that a team will meet and discuss the issue of voters’ list slip-up with senior officials of the Commission after April 20.

Meanwhile, Ranchi DC Rai Mahimapat Ray assured to remove the snag in a fixed time. “Soon a special household survey will be conducted.

Before final compilation of voters’ list ahead of State Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) election in 2019, two rounds of survey will be done so that no such complaints like polling booths reposition or any other issues arises.

The survey is likely to begin from July this year.”
