With stigma around tuberculosis (TB) preventing the patients to disclose the disease and avail the treatment, the Government is now pinning hopes on 'TB Champions' — called so since they successfully battled the deadly disease — to help it achieve 'End-TB' target by 2025.

A senior official from the Union Health Ministry said that soon they will issue a circular asking the States to identify the TB Champions who have stood up to fight the social stigma and can openly talk about it at various forums like among community and in schools.

“Being role models, they can aspire others to come forward to get the treatment and  continue with the drugs to battle the disease,” the official added.
