Transparently disclose Information on selecting grade 1 children

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed the officials to take steps to disclose information pertaining to the selection of children to the first year in schools in a more transparent manner.

The Minister has given these instructions while participating in a progress review meeting held at the Ministry of Education recently. The Circular on admission of children to the schools for the year 2019 and the method were discussed at length at the meeting.

At the meeting the Minister instructed the officials to pay attention to disclosing the scoring methods, particulars of the places where the selected children are residing as well as the eligibility of children in a transparent manner while not violating the privacy of the children.

The measure is considered to prevent the corruption and irregularities in admitting children to the first year of schools.

The discussions also focused on complaints that some parents get admission to schools for their children using false documents and as a result the qualified children living near the schools have been wronged.

In addition, a few minor revisions to the circular for admitting children to the first year have also been considered considering the Vihara and Religious Affairs Act and gift deeds.
