Surat: The Common Wealth Games (CWG) gold medalist paddler Harmeet Desai reached home to a rousing welcome by family members and hundreds of fans at the Surat airport on Wednesday evening.
Harmeet was member of the India’s table tennis team that won a gold medal. He also bagged a bronze in men’s doubles event at the recently concluded CWG 2018 at Gold Coast in Australia.
Members of the BJP and Congress had reached the airport to welcome Harmeet.
Apart from local politicians, children and sports enthusiasts, too, gathered in large numbers to greet the local lad. People lifted the Harmeet on their shoulders and garlanded him on his arrival.
Harmeet has been invited by chief minister Vijay Rupani for a reception on April 19 in Gandhinagar.
