Sundowns' CCL group stage schedule announced

2018-04-18 13:47

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns will start their 2018 CAF Champions League Group C campaign at home when they face defending champions Wydad Casablanca on May 5.

Thereafter, the Brazilians are set to travel away to take on Guinea to meet Horoya on May 15 in the competition.

Pitso Mosimane's outfit, who won the tournament in 2016, then travel away from home to clash with Togolese team AS Togo Port de Lomé on July 17.

The return leg against Casablanca is on August 17 with the Absa Premiership leaders set to end their Group C commitments by facing Horoya in Pretoria on August 28.

CAF General Secretary Amr Fahmy said in a statement that the kick-off of matches would take place at the exact assigned times in either the early afternoon, mid-afternoon or evening, and game-days are Friday, Saturday and Tuesday.

He said: "There will be a few exceptions (to kick-off times) in some special cases since it is a novelty. However‚ we are hopeful it will mark a giant leap for our club competitions.

"We strongly believe in having a unique identity for the club competitions and also creating a rendezvous for the fans‚ a major stakeholder to identify with the two competitions.

"It will also increase the number of matches broadcasted by the TV Rights Holders."
