Miracle League of Lake County has begun player registration for its first season of inclusive baseball.

Eastlake Mayor Dennis Morley and Judy Moran, president of Miracle League of Lake County, are looking forward to opening day on June 16 and have begun searching for players and coaches.

Players do not have to be Lake County residents. The inclusive baseball league is open to any special-needs individuals in Northeast Ohio.

“We are really excited to begin our first season of league play. My hope is to get the word out to the schools and the special-needs kids and their parents as soon as possible so we can get them signed up,” Moran said.

The league, according to Moran, would love to have four or five teams of eight to 10 players for the summer session.

“If they have been involved in Challenger Baseball or a local recreation league, this is something they might want to try.” Moran said. “Every kid deserves a chance to play and this field is just an awesome place to start.”

Registration can be completed online at http://bit.ly/2H8DX8S or in person at the West End YMCA at 37100 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby.

Anyone with special needs ages 5 and older can register to play.

The cost of registration is $25.

Players can bring their own buddy. If don’t bring one, they will be paired up with one.

Games will be played from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at Classic Park in Eastlake, with each game lasting one hour.

The summer session runs June and July and a fall session will be offered in August and September.

“We are excited with the registration of teams for the reality of every kid being able to play baseball,” Morley said.
