A 46-year-old Wilmington man was arrested in connection to a carjacking Monday afternoon.

The victim, an 84-year-old man, had just done his grocery shopping at the Acme on 2098 Naamans Road shortly after 3 p.m. when a man approached him asking for money, Sgt. Richard Bratz of Delaware State Police said.

The senior citizen told police the two talked briefly, and then began to load his groceries into the car.

While doing so, the suspect opened the car door, locked the doors, and drove away, Bratz said.

Police spotted the car on I-95 south near Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania State Police stopped the car and made an arrest.

Sean E. Haines was taken into custody and committed to the Delaware County Prison on a $50,000 cash bond. He is awaiting extradition back to Delaware, Bratz said.

Haines has active warrants in Delaware for first-degree carjacking, Bratz said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Cpl. R. Cassidy of Troop 1 at (302) 660-4290, or by calling Delaware crime stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 and online at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
